Taken from “The Lightning” Wednesday, January 20, 1897 “ Clemen Sandlin took a shoe brush last week and rubbed Lamar dust from his hoofs preparing to leaving the Pine Springs Community and risking his future in Indian Territory where he may wed a squaw and get 40 acres of land”. February 24, 1897 “ J. S. Evans of Detroit was in town last week. Mr. Evans is a splendid fellow and on his way home, his charming face scared a wagon and made it run away with the mule and a bale of cotton. The cotton was not hurt”.
