Burwell and Sarah Marchbanks, 1851. In 1850 Burwell and Sarah Harwood Marchbanks came to Fayette County (now Lamar ). They built there home on the west side of Yellow Creek and lived their remaining days in the Shiloh Community. He founded the Shiloh Baptist Church in 1851 and he and his large family were faithful members through the years. Many outstanding citizens of Lamar County have descended from Burwell and Sarah Marchbanks. (Courtesy of Virginia Woods Gilmer ). |
